  • » Sunday our season opens with the Kenosha Spring Training Races.
  • » Oh, look: Snake Alley registration is open. As always, it’s by mail, and as always, your race may hinge on your start position, which will in turn hinge on your registration order, which will in turn hinge on how soon your entry is in the mail, which will in turn hinge on how soon you can find a darn stamp.
  • » Sherman Park registration is open. The urban criterium will be on April 9 this year.
  • » The Leland Kermesse has released its 2011 flier.
  • »Tour of America’s Dairyland has updated its Web site with fliers for each race. Cat 2/3 fields! But it’s not going to be cheap: $38-$53 per race, plus any SportsBaseOnline fees.
  • » WDT-Allvoi will be raising funds and volunteering for Make-A-Wish Foundation this season.

$40 day of registration for Leland! First sticker shock of the season. I know this is not new or exclusive to Leland, but holy hell. There’s got to be a way to run these things leaner. Or give us a t-shirt with our registration like a fun run.

Unique and cool races are worth the $ in my book.

I encourage you to host a race to see how your reg $‘s are used and what’s left over after all expenses are paid. Think of it this way… when was the last time you saw a professional race promoter?

Did I tell you we are paying the bike reg fees? That saves you a few bucks.

Wow. I like to think I’m as angry as anybody about registration fees, but this race is an absolute bargain at the prices on that flyer.  I’m not sure there is another race in the Chicago metro area that will hurt you as much and as long as Leland will for $40.

Want to save on entry fees….Drive another 500 miles round trip to Durand, Wi and race. (Don’t pay attention how much $ you put in the gas tank)

Road races are usually $20-$25 in Oregon, and free if you volunteer to work a follow car. Criteriums $17. No prize list, though. We get plenty of racers. 42 in the cat 3s last week. http://obra.org/

I ran the money for Darin Minter at Grayslake Cycling Classic for three years. It’s hard and pricey to run a race, guys. No one’s looking to run a profit on races like these. Believe it or not we do it for fun and all we really want is enough dough to pay something significant to the race “cause” and have beer money for the staff that work so hard.

I beg a correction MJH:

for $35, not $40…register early!

Thanks Flatlandia!  I’ll bring a post race sammich rather than stop at some crappy fast food joint and easily make up those $5-10 in reg fees.

Oh, I got that Mike. I was just assuming the wost possible scenario.

$40 for your average crit = a lot.

$40 for a race that’s going to take you most of the day and not let you forget it for weeks after = bargain.
