I don’t think I’m alone in saying I’m afraid of Superweek.  There’s this looming issue with insurance as well as many cases/rumors of bounced checks.

I raced many of them last year and didn’t have a single problem, but this year I’m more worried.

I have no intention of pre-registering for any of SW races which means I’ll have to pay same-day if the races actually happen, further adding to the out-of-pocket cost to race.

Point understood, the catch 22 however is that many races depend on that pre-registration money to pay for licensing, police coverage, etc. This year the Fitchburg-Longso Classic (one of the oldest races in America) had to cancel because they came up ~150 riders short in pre-reg in order to break even. At least one race this year in Michigan almost didn’t happen because of low pre-registration. It’s a slippery slope for all involved I’m afraid.

Hmmm….I don’t blame Mike for not pre-reg’ing Stooper Weak.

We have seen a lot over the years out of ICC.  They were (allegedly) denied permits from USAC because they still haven’t paid officials fees and USAC fees from previous year, and they have a long history of bounced checks and non-payment (Wasn’t there a lack of payment to you one year PelotonStar?)

There is also a great deal of concern about whether or not ABR can adequately swing such a large production.  I sure hope so.

Unfortunately at this point it is my personal belief that ICC-Superweek has burned up completely every single bit of goodwill that they could possible have generated with the local cycling drones such as ourselves.  I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that asking for enough faith in their organization for us to actually pre-register is really kind of out of line and just simply not going to happen.

Silver lining - hey!....Superweek is on!  Lets hope this is (yet another) chance for them to re-earn our trust and faith in their ability to be fiscally responsible with events.  Let’s hope that ABR is rewarded for taking on such a risk, and let’s hope that the whole thing makes enough money to finally settle all of the back and unpaid (alleged) debts and (alleged) bounced checks!

I also hope to one day see a Unicorn crapping cupcakes while on a ride someday.

Hey!  How about that ToAD thingy….

As I read these posts, I can’t sit here and keep quiet!  It is FACTUAL that SUPERWEEK owe USAC for the rider insurance, some official fees AND the riders.
It is a FACT that their checks bounced!  As a parent of a rider, I am confirming that my son’s check bounced AND not only is he missing out on his winnings bur he is also out additional $ due to the bank fees that he got hit with when his check bounced!
SUPERWEEK should be ashamed…
Good luck ABR!

I feel your pain cyclingmom.  Due to their proven track record of legal action though….I tend to use the word alleged quite a bit.  Albeit I do include it in parenthesis.

Most the Superweek races are actually organized by local folks. The same ones that organize all the other races.  So, I’m not really getting the implication that the entire series might just fold up and die this year.

I don’t really know anything about bounced checks (I’m not fast enough to finish in the money), or payment to officials, but I’ll race any sanctioned bike race put on near my house.

See you folks at ABR Superweek in Geneva… then at the USAC race in St. Charles later in the month.

Morton Cycling Classic July 7th- Last race of the Illinois cup, great little town, even better course, Huge paid outs, goodie bags for preregistrations, USAC race. Also heard a rumor that if you email Kevin Lantz from the Proctor team,(lantzka@gmail.com) he has $50 visa gift card to racers who carpool with three or more and travel more than 150 miles. Pre-registration is very light. I did this race last year and it was a well run, well organized race, on a great course.

Re: over/under on the Tour of Chicago Actually happening?

They’re looking at having the Tour of Chicago in Garfield Park.  A permit was submitted and they’ll know by Tuesday July 3rd whether it’s on or not.

Speaking of which, I just got an email saying they’re offering “$10 entry fee for any Masters cat 1-2 racers for the Pro/1/2 race in Beverly this Friday night.”  Damn. Wish I was a 2!

Props goes out to fellow FLATLANDIA rider Ryhs Louis on his first place finish today at the Super Week Cat 3 Willow Springs Road Race!  Bridging up to and soloing away from another rider for the win!

Props also goes out to fellow FLATLANDIA rider Krystian Weglarz in helping shut down any and all attempts to bridge across to Ryhs.  Bike Racing Tactics 101 executed to perfection!

WELL DONE BOYS!!!
