Ah, spring. Finally our weekends are again chock-full of racing opportunities. Goodbye, hours wasted sleeping in. Farewell, brunch and $12 omelets. Sunday New York Times? You’re canceled!

This weekend's big event -- the super event, if you will -- will be Sunday’s debut Spring Super Criterium, hosted by Burnham Racing and Vitaminwater-Trek in South Beloit. I'm eager to see how the 1.9-mile course plays out. It might be curvy enough to help potential breaks get out of sight, but the lack of technicality will work to the chasers' advantage. CBR prediction: Field sprints in the 3/4, 4/5 and masters 4/5 races, lead groups of 4-10 riders everywhere else. Remember that beginning racers are encouraged to attend the 8 a.m. clinic put on by Randy Warren (XXX Racing-AthletiCo). Two bonus competitions of note: The World Bike Relief Team Challenge will honor the team with the best overall performance, and as noted when I announced the race, I'm offering a Clif Bar to the masters rider who does best in the Cat 3 trifecta (masters 1/2/3, 3/4 and 1/2/3). Farther from home, there is a crit Saturday in Sheboygan, Wis., where the flier promises a 1-mile course with a steep hill before the start/finish. And the Indiana Race Series kicks off with the Mississinewa Reservoir Road Race in Peru, Ind., a 15-mile loop along rolling, windswept roads. (Reminder: Someone always forgets the time change on their first racing trip to Indiana. Don't drive three hours just to be an hour late!)

Saturday Evergreen Park Criterium USCF criterium Sheboygan, Wis. Distance from Chicago: 2.5 hours

Mississinewa Reservoir Road Race ABR road race Peru, Ind. Distance from Chicago: 3 hours

Sunday Spring Super Criterium USCF criterium South Beloit, Ill. Distance from Chicago: 2 hours

Thanks for the great plug, Luke. Race Director Jason K will be updating all the registrants, but we had a great site visit over the weekend and Blackhawk is ready for action - bring out your bling wheels, kiddies. Better roads will not be found this season.

Spine-tingling video of JK riding in circles (Make sure the volume is REALLY loud so it seems even MORE exciting…) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24lJPYVDQa4

I know that everyone has tunnel vision for this super-duper crit, but has anyone ridden the Evergreen Park course before?  Any idea what kind of hill we are talking?  My LEW wheels are on backorder, wanna make sure I am not in the soup.

A warning to the editor:  If you are planning to abandon your significant other to race crits every Sunday, you had best not cancel her Sunday paper.

The Chicago Cuttin’ Crew will have 100% attendance. We’re even bringing random people we’re finding on the street.

Sunday is going to be awesome. I’m getting excited…

Awesome! I forgot to mention that pre-registering before Friday saves $5 per race.

Yes, I know I’ve probably gone above the maximum allowed self-promotion posts but I wanted to give everyone a heads up.

As of 11:30am some of the fields are filling:
(currently registered/limit/remaining slots)

Men 5: 35/50/15
Men 4/5: 42/75/33

The men’s 5 filed will most likely fill up before Sunday forcing everyone into the 4/5 field which as a result will also likely fill up so pre-register now…

And where are all the women?  C’mon a separate 4’s field and a 1/2/3’s field… Ladies step up and show your Super Crit love!

Juniors I’m looking at you too!!

Julian, women rarely pre-register because our fields so rarely fill up. But I hope a bunch of ladies show up—I’ll be there!

Rode out to Blackhawk Farms today and took a look at the course. It’s wide. It’s flat. Good, smooth pavement except on the 90 degree corners. On the 90 degree corners stay inside or outside because the middle line will be a high speed reminder of the Hillsboro bricks.

Pre-registering also saves $5. That’s almost an entire gallon of gas!

With the service fee, you only end up saving $2.40 . . . so half a gallon of gas?

$5 used to get you a case of Huber at Everett’s Liquors in South Beloit (HINT: post Spring Super Crit celebration). BTW, they have a wide selection malt liquors, but I recommend avoiding the Laser 40 oz.

Hi all,

jasonK., Race Director for the SSC here. Glad you’re all coming out to the race… it’s going to be Super!

To the ladies… nothing draws a crowd like a crowd!

To the cost conscious… $2.40 is still better than $0 and guarantees you a spot in the race.

To anyone within a short drive of Blackhawk Farms… please do not enter the BHF facility without permission from the owners. BHF is private property and you should treat it as such. I know at least 100 individuals who would not be happy if the race was canceled at the last minute due to trespassers on bicycles. Everyone will have a chance to pre-ride the course before their race.

There is plenty of information about the facility and course at the Web site, including a Tech Guide and a race communique.

If you still have questions please contact me.

Thanks and see you all on Sunday!!!

Looks like Saturday’s WCA opener is cancelled due to snow and ice on the course.

Should have mentioned that we were there with permission to do so.

Sorry.

I guess I will be the first (but certainly no the last) to say that today’s race really was amazing (sorry, you may need to rename it).  I am not able to think of a single thing that they could have done better (other than move me up in the results).
Again, cheers V-water boys!  You really know how to throw a bash!

Thanks to the guys and girls at Burnham. You did a great job!

i was impressed by the facilities, the course, the punctuality of the races, and the easygoing, friendly attitudes of the organizers (which was infectious—i don’t remember another race where everyone was so chatty on the sidelines).

thanks to burnham racing for starting my season off with such a good feeling.  and congrats to jeff wat.  nice one.
