This weekend brings two fun, low-key races to help you stay sharp ahead of what should be an intense day in Glencoe.

Saturday’s criterium in Grayslake is the final race on the Illinois Cup calendar, so some people will be looking to protect or advance their individual and team rankings. It’s a flat, non-technical course in the shape of a U.

Sunday’s criterium in Wood Dale will be ABR’s state championships. I believe this will be on the south loop of the industrial park, an oval course with sweeping turns and a small kicker just ahead of the final corner.

Looking ahead to next week’s Glencoe Grand Prix, don’t forget that there is a clinic for women next Friday, and note that there are just a few spots left in the bonus Cat 5 race.

Saturday Grayslake Cycling Classic USAC criterium Grayslake, Ill. Distance from Chicago: 1 hour Previous wrap-ups: 2007, 2008, 2009

Sunday Wood Dale Criterium ABR criterium Wood Dale, Ill. Distance from Chicago: 0.5 hours Previous wrap-ups: 2008, 2009

Team/Club Managers;

I would love any bio’s of riders in all categories, and feel free to add things other than bicycle results, such as interesting hobbies, previous sports, etc….

For any and all cyclists competing in Grayslake, Glencoe, Winfield, and Dixon in each of the next four weekends. Kindly email to me at kennylabbe-at-aol.com as I am announcing (or co-announcing) at these four events. Race well.

If you were planning on taking Metra to the Sunday crit you’ll need to find other transportation.  No bikes are allowed on Metra this weekend (in any direction regardless of the number of people on the train—can’t have even a potential conflict with someone who might be headed to or from lollapalooza).  If you do happen to miss the signs and get on a train unawares you will be unceremoniously kicked off by the conductor regardless of where you are along the route.  Do I sound a little bitter?  Still not sure how I managed to get to Grayslake today…

Yes I’ve had trouble with this too.  In my opinion if chicago wants to be considered the ‘bike friendly city’ that they always try to promote then they need to allow bikes on trains all the time.

Just FYI, Darin added a really nice feature to the P1/2 and 3s this year. Hoping it makes it onto all the races next year. A cut out “chicane” on the back straight. I heard nothing but good things about its addition. Even though the course is “not technical”, it’s certainly very fun and the back two corners are tight and tricky if you’re not paying attention. Witness the 3 goatf*** on the last lap that claimed 8 victims. Anyway, it’s a beautiful course too.
