- » New Chicago resident Mark Swartzendruber (Verizon Wireless) is throwing Druber’s 40K Time Trial Challenge Aug. 23 near Champaign. Bonuses of $50 go to anyone who can beat Swartzendruber, as well as to any man who can beat an hour “naked”— no aero equipment. (Women get 1:05.)
» Add the Sept. 19 Ronald Reagan Criterium in Dixon, Ill., to your calendar. (I expect hard-right turns and massive oxygen deficits.)
» The Tour of Elk Grove won’t be going through Schaumburg this year.
» New details have been posted to the Superweek schedule. I notice that the Bensenville map indicates it will go clockwise this year, which I hope will make for a safer circuit. Also, registration is now open.
» Mark Keller (Bicycle Heaven) has been taking some great photos and posting them at Bike Race Imaging.
» The Judson and Turin rides appear in the second half of John Bresland‘s video essay “Zero Station,” which celebrates the sanctuary we find on group rides. “Everyone here ... is really here.”
» More cycling, fewer injuries and fatalities. Funny how that works.
» A history lesson from Steve Tilford (Tradewind Engergy/Trek Stores): “Up until maybe Telekom, the teams didn’t ride tempo all day. Riders raced.”
» Hoffman Estates’ Fitness for America Sports Festival will include a 10K time trial July 25.
» “You wave, we drink.”
