Rob Curtis (Psimet) has stepped up to revive the May 15 criterium in Fox River Grove, receiving village board approval last night.

Vernon Hills remains canceled, but this effort saves one of the most distinctive races on our calendar.

The race will not be part of the Illinois Cup and may not have the full range of categories, although the schedule isn’t final yet.

Curtis says if the race makes any money it will be split between Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County and the Village of Fox River Grove. “I am only doing this to save the race,” he says. “I feel and the board feels that continuity is most important.”

I just heard a rumor that a certain racer named “Luke” tripled it one year.  Should we expect another hat trick?

I absolutely will not be dragging my bloated carcass up that hill, but good for you guys.  This race has great potential to become a huge, cross-style hecklefest and a generally awesome time.  Way to keep the momentum up.

Now that FRG is no longer Illinois Cup, can we have a clydesdale race? If not the most competitive, it would surely be the most entertaining race of the day. Say maybe 2 laps? 3 at most?

I will get reg up on bike reg as soon as I can.  Probably early this week.  Entertaining the idea of a “short” “clyde” race.  I feel your pain and it would be fun.

I will be OTB by the top of the 1st lap seeing as I do not go uphill quickly, but, i will probably race to support Rob and the effort put out to save the race in the 11th hour.

I would encourage everyone to make it out to this race.

1. It’s an awesome race.

2. This is why it was saved by a racer willing to bite the bullet and give it a shot.

3. Any profits will go to a great organization in Big Brothers Big Sister’s of McHenry county, which pairs positive adult mentors with children coming from single-parent homes.

4. The city of Fox River Grove has placed faith in our cycling community by taking the nails out of the race’s coffin and hoping we can put on a successful and enjoyable event.

5. This is as grassroots as our sport can get…be a part of it.

6. The course is awesome, and I say this having blown up spectacularly each time I’ve done the race.

So…come be a part of it.

Also i fully support a Clydesdale race. That would be SUPER FUN as long as there is a defibrillator at the top of the hill (and someone who knows how to use it).

Clyde race is on the flyer.  190+ in rider apparel.  15 minute race with food/Enzo’s prizes.  cat 3/4/5.  50 Rider limit….act fast.

Also - I have a feeling there may be a “cake” Prime….

While giving Rob the many thanks he deserves (sincerely, THANK YOU ROB), lets not overlook Luke/CBR when passing out the appreciation…I cant help but feel he played a very large part by paving the information hiway for all of us, and still does! (I still miss the detailed race reports though!)
