FLASH: Chicago Crit 30+ 4/5 filling up
2008
My source with the city tells me that there are only five spots left in the Chicago Criterium’s masters 4/5 field.
There remain 60 spots in the 4’s (125 capacity) and 150 spots in the 3’s (200 capacity).

Money. Follow the money.
The course is wide. Very wide. But I expect the danger spot to be the apex of the hill on the southbound Congress Plaza trek. Will they close off Columbus Drive or only half?
I don’t expect the races will be all that much bigger than the Superweek races, and these size limits aren’t out of line. Melon City and Quad Cities had bigger field limits for the 4’s, for example. (I forget who won those races.) The 4’s will face a 175-rider limit in a 3/4’s Downers Grove Race, for another example.
Will these races be crowded and super competitive and maybe dangerous? Yes. But these aren’t practice races or office-park crits. These are the biggies, the races we started training in December for.
I’m interested in how the Congress Plaza roundabout will play out as well. Turn 2, with its descent and turn onto Michigan Avenue, will also be tricky. That’s where I’ll be setting up with my camera and Tegaderm stand.
I envision a herd of angry Bison ripping down Michigan Ave, The sound of gears mashing reflecting off the buildings….Aw Yeah !!! Bring it !!!!
I think there should be a Champion of Chicago Jersey awarded in each Cat… Similar to the State Championships at Proctor…Someone hurry and Design it !!!
You mean like this?
Quick.
150 more Cat3s register so I have an excuse for not coming down and kicking everyones ass (except Luke and Matt Moran’s)...and by kicking ass I mean leading out the xXx train.
Yes Luke…but it sounds like this..

with all of us riding the Wildebeest’s wearing furry Boots and wielding Swords with grins upon our faces…
Masters 4/5 is full. It is no longer a selection in the registration process.
I have the image of Ted Nugent doing Wango Tango in turn 2 and big black billowing steam engine turing onto Columbus Drive to Aerosmith and Train Kept a Rollin…
Maybe Vitamin Water, maybe Cuttin’ Crew, maybe xXx.

I’m curious how everyone feels about the massive size of these fields….
