Mark Swartzendruber (Scarletfire Racing) says the previously mentioned Sunday criterium in Champaign on July 12 is on. It will follow this route, close to the I Hotel, which Swartzendruber says will be offering a race discount.

Rough.

I am a grad student down here and we ride both First St. and Oak St. a lot on group rides as we head south to get to the wide open country roads.  Those roads have plenty of potholes big enough to swallow your entire front wheel.  That hotel was jsut built and had dump trucks and construction equipment ripping the hell out of those roads less than 6 months ago.  Is the city planning on repaving or anything?

To all concerned:

Yes, the city of Champaign will be patching pot holes before the races. The only part of Oak St on the course is brand new pavement in the South Campus Research park and as of yesterday was very clean.  Hazelwood Dr is the same. St Mary’s Rd between First and Oak is good as of yesterday.

Don’t worry…I got good connections with the city.  They’ll be on it.

Meh. Leave the potholes where they are, bring in jet engines to provide a crosswind and add “Roubaix” to your race name. Voila. You just doubled your registration.

I like that 3 step program to success. That should be in the promoter’s handbook.
