I’m not worthy to buckle that man’s shoe…but you can’t wear a road stars n’ bars in a criterium.  If I recall, he also wore a champion jersey at Downer’s Grove.  Wardrobe fail.

Hopefully nobody is wearing the Stars ‘n’ Bars anywhere.

Stars and stripes, on the other hand, yes, I believe you’re correct.

The real question is why some people aren’t wearing their state criterium championship jerseys.

You know, deep in the back of my head I knew I might be misusing “Stars n’ bars” because I recalled there was quite a discussion on CBR last year about it around this time.

As for the Illinois championship jerseys - we were told in Proctor that they’d be in the mail.  It’s been over a month—no jerseys, and the season is almost over.  There is a trail of tears leading from my mailbox to my front door.

Eh, the man has earned it in my mind—both an elite and masters road title in the same year, whilst working a 9-5’er. And mostly because there is such a critical lack of road races available to begin with, I’m willing to let is slide.

However, I am glad to see that Steve Tilford is no longer wearing the MTB masters world champion jersey during criteriums.

If I win at Glenco I will wear that jersey every day for an entire year.  I can see it now…a coworker says “hey Eric, I’m not sure that tie matches your…umm…jersey”

Matt, it’s so good to know I’m not alone in my grief.  I almost slipped in a puddle coming back up the stairs today from the empty mailbox….

That’s one way to look at it.

Another way to look at it is that you’re stealing the honor from the guy who is actually did earn the right and is allowed to wear the jersey in that particular event.

Which at the Chicago Crit would have been Kirk O’Bee (USPro) or Daniel Holloway (USCF Elite) for the criterium specialty.  Paul Martin got 17th in the USCF Elite criterium championships.

It’s against the rules (1L5b), and the next time he shows up to a crit wearing it, the chief referee should really invite him to take it off.

No O’Bee or Halloway present makes it a wash for me.

I think it should be more of a priority for USA Cycling officials to enforce rule 3A6 (i.e. Bensenville) than to concern themselves with being fasionistas.

Further, the Toyota-United team kits should n’er be allowed either.

100% agree on 3A6 and the Toyota-United kits.  I can’t fathom any legitimate reason why they picked stars and stripes as their color scheme.

As for O’Bee and Halloway not being present; it doesn’t matter.  They are the only ones permitted to wear the stars and stripes in an elite crit.
