Blue Island, and other Superweek news

The Superweek page for Blue Island doesn’t yet have a course map, but according to Main Street Blue Island, which has produced a nifty YouTube video detailing important Blue Island history and retail along the course, this will be the route. It’s a basic rectangle through tree-lined streets, both commercial and residential. From the satellite view it looks flat, but MapMyRide suggests a 100-foot dip around turns 1 and 2. Perhaps someone from Blue Island can scout it out for us.

In other news, Point Premium Root Beer was today announced as the series title sponsor. International Cycling has always done a great job finding title sponsors for the individual races, but I don’t know that it’s ever had a sponsor for the entire series.

Meanwhile, June Upshaw (Kenda Tire) gets her new blog off the ground with a look at the rules of Superweek. Among other things, she finds a $250 fine for stealing food. Please keep this in mind when your hand is in my jersey looking to nip a Clif Shot.

Blue Island is actually my hometown and I am VERY excited for this race!  The local area paper confirmed the route I will detail.  It will be a blast.  Last week on the way back from Matteson I stopped by in Blue Island and scouted the course.  It is very much the same as the Kenosha Superweek Race.  The Start/Finish line is most likely (unofficial) midway down on Western by St. Francis Hospital since they donated a ton of money for the race.  Starting on Western Ave, the pavement is stellar as you fly south towards Vermont street making a right.  You will make a right on Greenwood Ave. and fly down the straightaway.  As Luke suggested there is a slight decline midway down on Greenwood.  Next right turn is on Oak Street followed by a right back onto Western.  The finishing stretch will be flat and FAST!

This will be a great start to Superweek!!

What kind of demerit do you get for misspelling your own name :-).

I mapped the course on a couple of different tools and they told me there is only a 10-20 foot difference over the course, which is different than what is shown on the link.  From Jason’s description, the course sounds pretty flat.
