All I know is what his friends are posting to his Facebook page. In short, he is still disoriented and required to be in restraints at the hospital, but he is making progress and taking visitors.

I finally got my check from the Chicago Crit about 4 weeks ago after I contacted Chicago Special Events Management.

They are waiting for us to verify our information. Apparently signing up online with a credit card and USCF annual license is far from credible. Unfortunately I didn’t save the email from them. I was able to reach them by using the contact us screen to ask a question:

http://www.chicagoevents.com/contact.cfm

It took them about four days to get back to me, then a day to return my phone call. Then after about 4 weeks I got my check.

Regarding Kanye hatin’ on Zipps: He’s undoubtedly referring to the Roland TR-808, a drum machine that was ubiquitous in early hip hop production. There’s a lot of nostalgia attached to it, so it’s not surprising that Kanye, an artist who celebrates those ‘good old days’, would refer to it in his album title.

Kanye does ride a track bike though (A Cinelli Vigorelli), so maybe he’s aware of the double-entendre.

The “hasn’t it got a stand?” is very funny. I found a lee evans - sprinting that had a great quote from the trainer in the bit. “for a runner like lee evans you don’t need a stop watch, you need a calendar.” some funny stuff.

There was a woman recently (the past year or two) who lapped a crit field. I can’t remember who or when, maybe it was Kristen Armstrong?

As for the track, people routinely get lapped on 250m tracks, especially at big events. Just this past week at Nationals, Colby Pearce and Kirk O’Bee lapped the field TWICE in the Points Race, while seven other guys lapped the field once. We don’t see it very frequently here because Northbrook is so long (383m) and flat. However I’m pretty sure Ted Burger lapped the field earlier this season.

The thing about that 4s race was Brian was supposed to be a rabbit that got caught (as we were focused on protecting our GC guy)—but after 5 laps, it was pretty clear that he was holding 45 km/hr easily and so I just let him go. It kind of scuttled our race plan, but was fun to watch. Brian’s performance shocked even his teammates.

At Saturday’s M-4 RR, a couple of big teams assembled impressive trains of 5-7 guys, which really helped to pick up the pace. Unfortunately, this also led to big time yellow line violations. For a while, the plan was to reduce the points awarded from double to single and eliminate the payout. Ultimately a compromise was struck, and payouts happened, but only single points awarded. The silver lining is that the top 6 riders are only separated by 8 points and even though it’s a lower cat, all 6 really seem to want the omnium win!

Also: beware the mosquitoes at Sunday’s crit.
