I love ABR races at Wooddale as much as anybody (probably more, actually), but ABR needs to get it’s officiating together. A lapped pack should always sprint on the same lap as the leader(s). And the lap counter should always show the laps left for the LEADERS. The fact that the two breakaway riders received conflicting information on when, exactly, the race would finish is not a good thing.

Actually Matt, Jared was denied his request to not race as a 5. All those cat 5’s can think Vince for not giving Jared the upgrade and essentially taking away any chance at winning that race.

It’s noted in my race report

Is that a typo in the Cat 5 results from Wood Dale? or the most outrageous sandbagging of the year? It looks like someone took the whole “race any category” a bit too seriously.

Just FYI, Darin added a really nice feature to the P1/2 and 3s this year. Hoping it makes it onto all the races next year. A cut out “chicane” on the back straight. I heard nothing but good things about its addition. Even though the course is “not technical”, it’s certainly very fun and the back two corners are tight and tricky if you’re not paying attention. Witness the 3 goatf*** on the last lap that claimed 8 victims. Anyway, it’s a beautiful course too.

Yes I’ve had trouble with this too. In my opinion if chicago wants to be considered the ‘bike friendly city’ that they always try to promote then they need to allow bikes on trains all the time.

If you were planning on taking Metra to the Sunday crit you’ll need to find other transportation. No bikes are allowed on Metra this weekend (in any direction regardless of the number of people on the train--can’t have even a potential conflict with someone who might be headed to or from lollapalooza). If you do happen to miss the signs and get on a train unawares you will be unceremoniously kicked off by the conductor regardless of where you are along the route. Do I sound a little bitter? Still not sure how I managed to get to Grayslake today…

We also owe a huge thanks to Brian Leisring. He stepped in to help Justin with all of ToAD and Superweek (the Downer video is his edit). Justin’s a student at Flashpoint/Tribeca here in the city and Brian is working on his Masters at Ohio University.

“You could have no money on the line and we’d still be racing the same...”

Local promoters take note:

How about we gut the purses and lower the entry fees. A 2k prize schedule is less enticing than a $20 entry fee.

I saw two US Marine and two US diplomatic looking helicopters make a landing in the Soldier Field parking lot last night. We all thought Obama was going to get out of one of them. They just stayed there a few minutes and then took off. The cancellation could be related to that. Maybe something similar going on Wednesday.
