Seriously, are there any weekend rides for the folks that like to sleep-in? I don’t have a farmer’s market/kid’s soccer game/trips to home depot/or whatever it is that makes people get up at the arse-crack of dawn to do a weekend group ride. Something around 10:00 would be lovely, especially in the city. Any other takers?

I think the majority of the Harper group likes the 7am time slot. I vote that the time goes back to 7am starting with tomorrow’s ride.

Also, I heard that last week’s ride went up Braeburn. That could be a safety issue with a big group, making that right turn off River after the downhill. Not trying to get out of a climb, but I want to get home safely.

I really wish it could be left at 10 AM forever. I used to do a ride in Inidanapolis that started at 10:30 A.M. on Saturdays and it was a really great ride with lots of guys showing up. I understand that married guys with families like to get this out of the way early but 7 A.M. is way too early for me and it’s way chillier. Just felt like complaining.

Road racing closer to Chicago is possible. It is a lot of work to obtain the blessing of the entities (local, county, state) that control the roads. It takes a lot of planning. It takes a lot of volunteers. It takes a lot of cooperation and coordination between the promoters and the ICA and officials. It has been done and the proof is the Tour of Oak Brook and the Willow Springs Road Race, thanks to the hard work of Tower Racing!

We all would like more road races like those and the ICA is working on ways that would make it easier for clubs and promoters who are willing to try.

We will be talking about these issues at the Leadership Conference this Sunday (today is the last day to register) http://tinyurl.com/yaya7dj

I think the SuperCrit record stands at 4 races in one day. As set by a Mr. Avi Neurohr in 2009.

Can’t blame him, right? It is one of the best criteriums around.

Marc, et al,

From the 2010 USAC rulebook:

8G1. Masters Championships are open only to Masters riders with racing ages in the specified ranges who are USA citizens or permanent residents as shown on their licenses. Riders with a racing age of 30 and greater, who hold Elite status as defined in rule 1A7, may not enter Masters Championships.

Further in 8G6 USAC recommends these age groups for State Championships:

30+ 35+ 45+ 55+

And finally, in 8G7 the National Championship age groups are as follows:
30-34 35-39 40-44 45-49 50-54 55-59 60-64 65-69 70+

So Wisconsin isn’t quite correct in eliminating the 30-39 age group as it is in fact a National level class and a recommended State class.

It would be interesting however, to poll promoters who rely upon racers doubling up throughout the day to make back their investment of capital about how they feel now that a large section of the racing population is being prevented from entering a second or third race and as such limiting the potential revenue source.

Caveat: I just turned racing age 30… :(

Why do people think 35+ is the “national standard”? Am I missing something?

The USA Cycling Rulebook clearly states masters categories start at 30.

Rulebook is here:

Check out rule 8G2 and 1A7.

The ONLY source of confusion I can see is that in rule 8G4 the age 35 is referenced twice, but only as an example in setting up masters categories. 30+ is clearly stated in 8G2.

So by my count if you are a 4 or a 5, on the week of <strike>April</strike> March 22 to <strike>April</strike> March 28 you could race in 14 races(by racing both heats of gapers block crits, two races at SSC, and two races at the autobahn).

Add another two races if you are over the age of 30 or under the age of 18.
